I was thinking the other day how with the advent of new technologies such as Texting, emails, cel phones, and instant messaging, Letter writing has become a lost art. No one writes hand written letters anymore.

I thought about this once before and decided to send out to my friends a letter sent through the post office. Out of eight letters sent, no one sent a reply by hand written letter. Almost everyone stated they were two busy to write a letter. Most wondered why I didn't just send a email or call. I did it because I remembered the excitement of having a pen pal. I remember sending out a letter and eagerly awaiting a reply. You don't get that excitement with email or other electronic communication.

Hell, I still have letters from my pen pal days as well as letters from friends and (ex)girlfriends alike. I have a shoe box full of these letters. From time to time I pull out the box and reread the letters. The reason is to reconnect with the feelings of anticipation and excitement I had when I recieved those letters. Someone took the time to put their thoughts down on paper in hopes someone would read it.

Maybe you should take the time to write a letter to someone, anyone and breathe new life into a lost art.

"Learn as much by writing as by reading." - Lord Acton

"Please write again soon. Though my own life is filled with activity, letters encourage momentary escape into others lives and I come back to my own with greater contentment." - Elizabeth Forsythe Hailey, 'A Woman of Independant Means' skull

You're right about that! Getting a letter in the mail, is like a present!

I also have a problem with the trend to have cell phones that do everything but your laundry. I just want a phone. Period! I don't need it to play music, or get e-mail, or display GPS maps, or take photos. I just want a freakin' phone!
