what do you think has been the most significant moment in human history? (1)
right now, i'm leaning toward the choque between the Old and New Worlds with Spain's conquest. (2)
there were economic ramifications leading to the death-knell of feudalism, implications regarding the sum of knowledge up to that point (i.e. how accurate could the Greeks we idolize be if they didn't know about this continent?) moving the Renaissance to the Enlightenment, vast religious questions created regarding the divine status of the Amerindians (lost tribe of Israel? many thought so), etc etc. i would argue that it directly or indirectly gave birth to the rise of capitalism, republicanism (not in the American sense), deism and the crumbling of the Bible as perfect truth, and many other things thus suffixed.
i stumbled upon this question today and find it fascinating. any others want to take a stab at it?
UPDATE: after seeing your responses, i feel i must clarify. i'm not really looking for inventions. that's a different question. i want an EVENT. something intangible yet concrete. (no ____ Dynasty or development of the Catholic Church or nuthin' like that.)
1. please note , the first person to say his or her own birth or anything else of that ilk will have their wrists personally slit by me. inventions of kinds of food, though i am more inclined to agree with, are also stupid. you will have your stomach sliced open and take the pleasure of holding your own entrails. etc.
2. spanish speakers, how do you translate choque? it's a great word, and i can't seem to find a good english equivalent. clash is the closest i know of, but doesn't quite convey what i want to say. collision, maybe.
BEYOND THIS: i have my russian midterm tomorrow, and i feel confident though still a touch apprehensive. i wanted to go run and lift weights this evening, but it appears that my scholastic duties weigh too heavily. but after this week, i have a break to chill out, leave town, go dancing, and figure a hell of a lot of things out.
