one of the many things that i find annoying is the tendency for people to say "it was a native american belief that..." or "the snake was the native american symbol for..." as if there was one united group across all of native america that believed the same things. it's one of the most ingratiating things about new-ageism, the idea that all native americans were these amazing magical people with spirit animals and such. sure, there was great spirituality and earth stewardship in some tribes. and then, there were the mexica, whom we call aztecs, who didn't fit any dream-catcher-turquoise-bracelet-vision-quest ideal.
(flux is a) part cherokee and b) all logician and thus c) is often grated on by such sweeping generalizations)
