Nice post. I agree with the smaller group dynamic. I'm dorky and awkward in big groups...and in small groups too, but I'd like to think it's more endearing.

I wonder if a forward works...i should have taken the train, much more Philip Marlowe. Life is weird, a year ago, I would have never considered ordering one drink and one cigar and paying $60 for them, but when I am back in the LA lifestyle, it doesn't phase me a bit.

I did make it home ok - thanks! And also thanks again for the drinks, it was really appreciated! I also forgot all about the valley girl voice thingy, I guess growing up in central california will never wear off! 
My friend Xray is an Associate Member at the Magic Castle, and I am subletting a flat right next door to it, so I've been able to meet Xray a few times now when he goes.
