I know Halloween is still a month away, but due to my complete lack of interest last year, I'm coming at it this year full force. I suppose it helps that my childhood sweetheart [insert facetious "awwww"] will be in town Halloween weekend.

My roommate always has cheap and easy costume ideas. This year he's going to be a female informant whose voice and face have been altered to protect her identity. He'll wear a pixelated mask and a dress.

I'm getting one of those plastic costumes from the 80s with a smock depicting the character you're supposed to be, but I plan on altering it to be an image of me in some dynamic superhero pose. I'll also paint a plastic mask to look like me (not that I'm vain, or anything tongue) The only problems I foresee are finding a mask with a beard -- all of the pirates and wrestlers seem to have a lot of facial accoutrements and there seems to be a shortage of plastic Santa masks. That, and I'm far too big to wear a kiddie costume, which means I may have to resort to creating a miniature puppet body to hang around my neck. Then again, someone might look at the getup and think I'm meant to be a Halloween pederast.

In other news, my four-month weight loss total is currently at 21 lbs. All from my cheeks.

I hear you. Last year, I had a 2 hour meeting in Ang Lee's office with two Focus Features Execs, and it was clear from the detail of the meeting that they had really put time into watching what I'd sent them. We went over it moment by moment. And I left very excited. Nothing came of it.

We also had a group of fans at HBO who would cc Bob Conte, basically THE MAN at HBO, on all of their rave emails about us. Nothing came of that either.

So I've learned that that's just the way it goes and not to worry about that stuff. When it catches, it catches. Just keep working on what's next and make sure you're happy creating what your creating.
