much like PB & ham sandwiches seeming like an odd combo, this band's core sound - indie pop meets uncompromising Motown soul - works. the lead singer sounds exactly like daryl hall, i mean EXACTLY like daryl hall. its indistinguishable. if you grew up in the 80s, it will freak you out.
except instead of crooning over pop ballads or top 40, this guy belts out classic Motown in a pinstripe suit. and instead of creepy john oates singing backup, you get a hot, tattooed black chick with a wardrobe of 60s sleeveless crew dresses and go go boots with a powerhouse voice and energy to spare.
six piece band, no lead guitar. melody is driven by the keyboard player, the emphasis is on rhythm - as in lots of tamborine banging and handclapping and dancing.
for once something retro that i really like
