The birthday went well, and largely as planned.
The Office couldn't be had at our local Blockbuster, so we got A Prairie Home Companion to re-watch instead. The first time I saw it was in the Cox Capitol Theatre in Macon, which serves alcoholic beverages during the film. Although I enjoyed it then, I think I appreciated it better without the filter of seven black and tans.
I love the radio show, and I love Robert Altman, so it's a real win-win for me. There's a quiet belatedness that permeates the film, a sweet sadness that brings not tears but the faintest tinge of an understanding smile.
The wine was good, and despite the small takeout feast we gathered, the total cost of food, drink, and movie rental was under $40. A very nice birthday on the cheap.
As G.K. always points out, it could certainly be worse.
