Moving can be lonely business. Last time I moved, I did it completely by myself. Sent out the broadcast email to the friends and got bupkis back. It was just me and the wrong size U-Haul. They rented out the one I'd put down a deposit for so I ended up with a van. No truck....just a little van. Thankfully I don't have much stuff and I had my piano professionally moved, but it took more than 25 trips back and forth from the old place to the van and then to the new place. It also took an extreme amount of fatigue to accomplish it all. All I can say is thank god for the person who invented the hand truck and the moving dolly or I'd have been SCREWED !!!!

Wait, I figured the people who set you up would have told her that you were moving soon?? What do you mean "she found out?" Was she saying she didn't know, and then just recently found out? I'd be suspicious about that. If the friends who set you up knew you were moving, I'd be surprised if they didn't tell her. They should have told her, it wouldn't have been cool if they hadn't. Yeah, I'm wondering if they told her right up front (her behavior seemed to indicate that she knew), and then if she was playing like she didn't know . . . just to get some good dinners/whatever out of you, what a bitch!

You should totally do what I often do when I move, I gave up on "friends" helping a long time ago. You can pay local movers to load up your rental truck for you, then you drive it away. It's not that expensive, and it only takes a couple of hours, they're so fast. And look up local movers in your destination and pay them to unload you when you get there. It's quick, easy, and not that expensive. TOTALLY worth the cost. Seriously, make some phone calls and you'll see. Good luck!
