Nothing really, but I am getting ready to re-visit Bangkok"The City of Angels", as it is more formally known (Bangkok being a nickname), and to see and to observe the Thai election on the 3rd of July. Lots of fun. Thailand has been plagued with coups, military dictatorships, and general political squabbling ever since it became a 'democracy' in 1932. Reformist governments get sacked by...

It's feast or famine when it comes to my social calendar. Almost everyone I know will be away or otherwise engaged this coming weekend. It could be a long and lonely holiday weekend for me.

I have now been in the 'deep south' of Thailand for a week. This is the Muslim majority area of Thailand, afflicted with insurrection, whereby -- some -- of the local Muslim Malays wish to break away from Thailand and join with Malaysia.

a. I don't think that they would be any better treated, and
b. Malaysia seems entirely uninterested in their situation.

Today I...

I'm sure you'll be glad to be in one place for a while for some R&R. Even I need to slow down once in awhile.

In the town of Pattani, in the 'deep' south of Thailand, a region of rice, small villages, and terrorism. Elements in the Muslim majority province don't like being part of Thailand and believe that if they break away and become part of Malaysia they will be better treated---yeah, right. Screwed either way imo.

The capital town of Pattani has about 40k people, and a number...

While I'm on a tight budget, cheap hotel rates due to terrrorism doesn't do anything for me, lol.

I thought that I should go to the trouble of telling who reads my blog, not many I suspect, what I am doing now. What I am doing is travelling, right now travelling in southern Thailand. A land of small towns, lots of villages, rice farms, rubber plantations, usually friendly certainly interesting people, and lots of things to see.

Right at this moment I am...

I have been pre-occupied for the last year or so with one or four other things, but I am back here, and lets see what is happening. Currently touring through Thailand. Plan to visit Sumatra, Java, Borneo and then the Phils this year.

Wish me luck.

Here I sit, early evening at a Dome (us people think sbux) in the town of bunbury 200kms south of Perth. Growing a little bored in my home town waiting 4 lawyers to shuffle papers I decided a week away Ed b fun. I am staying at a backpackers, and wandering around the town taking snaps and doing stuff. Quickly getting tired of the high cost of living in the 1st world. Had dinner at Sizzler in Perth last night, with some friends. Cost = $25au for salad bar and a fizzy drink! In Pattaya I can get the same for $4, and better service, better seating, better blah blah, bitch bitch. Looking forward to going back.

Delayed, for various personal reasons, but not dramatic nor traumatic reasons, nothing that would make an exciting personal story. Suffice it to say, I am seeing way more than I want to of my lawyer (never ask a lawyer how his xmas was, it will cost you $15). Anyway, in Perth for another month or so, getting some paperwork sorted. Anyone remember when life was...

That's okay. Since you're one of my more recent firends it's understandable that you weren't aware of the circumstances, as I don't speak as often about Annette as I used to. No worries.

Hello to all my SG friends. Time for a new Ian blog smile

This blog is all about the great city of Perth, my home town. I am staying here for a few weeks over xmas and the new year to see friend, family, my accountant and lawyer. Hopefully, in that order. it is in fact good to be back in Perth, a restful place. However,...

I did Muay Thai for a while (about 6 months or so). I have no idea how useful it would be for self-defense (though I know that the MT folks one sees on TV takes on insane amounts of beatings), but damn, it builds stamina like nothing else. Before I started I could run perhaps 200 meters before I was out of breath, after 6 months of Muay Thai (we had to stick to basic conditioning for a while because a strike meant we could no longer access to place we trained at) me and the vice-coach (we were the only ones to show up at some trainings during the strike) went out running. 5 kilometers without a single stop, and I felt amazing.

Like I said, I never trained Muay Thai enough to become good at it, nor did I get the chance to try it out for self defense, but it's bloody fun.
Been in Thailand for a long time? Wanted to go there for some time, but I've never managed to save up the money frown.

How does the visa thing work nowadays? From what I remember, it used to be that you could stay more or less indefinetly and just make a visa run once per month.
Yeah, I know it can be cheap, which was sort of what I was looking for back then. I planned to save up about 50-70.000 krona (7-10K Australian dollars) and spend as long as possible (until money ran out and all I had left was a ticket back) there to train muay thai. Never managed to get as much money as I needed though. frown

You staying in Perth? I like those picture, very pretty place, looks very much like an idealized European town/city smile. Australia is another of those places where I've wanted to go for a long time as well. Maybe I should look into a work visa? smile (Or I can do what my friend did - spend quite a number of months in Australia working illegally tongue).
Hm, mining...wonder what qualifications one needs? I assume there's not much swinging a pick axe these days confused.

Back in Australia for xmas!

I am now back in my home town of Perth, Australia. Way over on the west coast, no where near Sydney (Singapore is closer to Perth). I travelled via cargo ship, 7 days from Singapore, arriving on xmas morning. Great fun, great way to relax. I will be here for 3 weeks, then heading east to Sydney to see some...

Quiet? Hardly. I'm about to tell the world some news that I've been looking forward to for a while now. My fingers are hardly touching the keys, as I float on air.
