- I learned how to roll my kayak last weekend. The girl had tried to teach me last summer, without actually knowing how to herself... So I spent most of an hour upside down in the water, blowing bubbles and trying to figure out what to do with my paddle! It was pretty comical! I'm way too cheap to spend $40 an hour for a class from an "Adventurer" store, so I was thinking I'd have to figure it out for myself. But I found out that the local YMCA lets some locals use the pool for classes, $45 for three two hour classes, now that I can handle.
- So the folks were very friendly, happy that I was there, and nobody even asked for money! Cool! I've been a sea kayaker, so I have a 15 foot boat, these whitewater boats are a teenie weenie six feet! Like a bathtub toy! My instructor gave me an overview, flipped me around a few times. and then told me to go for it... So over, around, and back up I came! Woo Woo! I'm no olympic expert yet, but now i've got the concept. I'ts much easier to go from upside down to right side up if you have an idea of what you're actually supposed to be doing! And yes, I did have the foresight to bring noseplugs...
- Next weekend I'll go and spend two hours perfecting the roll in the little boat, and then the week after, I'll drag my big heavy kayak in and see if I can learn to roll the Green Beast! Thank god for some little adventure, I've been so winterly bored without the bike or boat. Or both... (did I mention I can trailer two kayaks and all the camping gear with the bike... )

These guys are always looking for folks to go whaitewater kayaking with, so the class comes complete with kayaking buddies! And one of the guys was even looking to go on some ocean kayaking adventures, which is right up my alley! So all in all, this class thing is shaping up to be a great find!
