3 am, and I'm back from Revenge Of The Sith. How do you sum up 28 years of expectations being met? It's hard, I'll tell you that much.
"Wow" pretty much says everything. It was all I ever expected, and more. I'll say more in the morning when I can think clearly.
I'm just fuckin amazed at that movie. I have to see it again. SOON. Tomorrow?
My post from the Star Wars group...
May, 1977. A week prior, a movie was released. One that will eventually change the way movies are made.
A three year old is packed into the family jeep. Mom and Dad take son one a one-hour trip down the 101 into San Francisco. Son has never been to San Francisco before. The big red bridge make a huge impact on him.
That will soon be replaced.
Family pull up to a parking lot. Mom unloads son while Dad gets in line. This is the biggest single building Son can remember entering.
Son walks in, and is overwhelmed by the mass of humanity that faces him. He walks with Mom and Dad up a set of slowly spiraling stairs into towards the balcony. The curtain is parted, and Son is picked up by Dad, so he can see what appears to be the largest room ever made. All he can see is 2 levels of seats, rapidly filling.
Mom, Dad and Son sit down, as the lights go dark. At the front of the room, a set of gigantic curtains part, and a white screen appears behind it.
2 hours pass. Son, who has never seen anything bigger than a TV screen, has spent the entire time silent, mesmorized by what he has witnessed. The Death Star has exploded. Chewbacca has called for the Rebels to stand at attention. Son Stands in his chair, clapping and crying, never wanting this specticle to end.
28 years later, Son is preparing to witness the end of the series, the films that set him on his way to being a fan, an Army veteran, and a semi-hack writer who may never get published, but just doesn't care.
When all else goes wrong, I pop in my copy of Star Wars (I will NOT call it A New Hope) and I am 3 years old again, with the world seeming to be a better place.
Back to now.....
to be continued in the morning........
