I started watching Mad Men Season 1 through Netflix.

I almost gave up on the show after watching the pilot episode, which was full of the kind of "winking at the camera" jokes that I abhor in entertainment that seemingly only exist to make people feel smart that they know something the character doesn't (example, Draper says "It's not like there's some 'magic machine' that makes identical copies of things").
I was happy to see that the show does get much better. The self-referential stuff almost completely disappears by episode two, and much grander themes are introduced about familial bonds, unfulfilled lives, loyalty, among many others. If what I hear about Season Two being even better is right, then this could easily become one of my favorite shows on television.
BSG ignorance aside, it looks like the Emmy Awards finally got one right.
