Hmmm...I can relate to the butterfly thing. I'm having that same problem right now, actually. My advice; learn what this girl is interested in. If I'm interested in a guy, I'm overly observative and I pay attention to the smallest things, like what type of music they listen to, what kinds of books they like to read, who their friends are. You can learn a lot about a person just by being observant. Pay attention to the little things about a person that make them tick, and you'll probably learn more about them than they know about themselves.
Ask around, or ask her what she likes to do. I wouldn't necessarily phrase it "so, uh, what do you like to do for fun" because that comes off as stupid in my opinion, but maybe take a look at what she has with her...any books, pins on her purse, the shoes/clothes she's wearing, and get an idea of what she is like. Start talking up her assets, and she'll be sure to pay attention to you. Girls like to be complemented, like if they change their hair/clothing style/etc. If you notice something that strikes you about her, give her a compliment and maybe ask her about it or something.
As far as the nervous thing goes, you're going to have to just suck it up and play it cool. If you make the right moves, you're not going to get shut down, and you'll be happy that you made a move rather than sitting in the corner mumbling to yourself about how much you like her.

Sorry your day was pure trash. Mine wasn't that faboo, either yesterday. Actually, I almost got into a horrible accident. The car in front of me got smashed head on by some maniac driving South-bound - head on - into North Bound traffic. It was on Evergreen Way. Crazy stuff, really. He just missed my car by a mere three inches.
I stayed to wait for the cops, and I got the guy's plates. The cop was cute, though.
Work today? I get my MLK, I'm stoked!!!
