Stabbing at ocean waves...Covenant Series, book six...
"Annabelle got up and walked over to me and sat down, on my lap. She ran her hands through my hair, over spots that I have identified as my thin spots and over the crown of my widows’ peek. Areas lush with hair now, it’s thick, hard to manage stuff that I have no idea what to do with except slick back and down."
“Quit overthinking this. Quit overthinking everything. You’re spending all this time in your head and cooped up. You can’t avoid me, I’m already here. I’m not going anywhere, not for a while at least. You aren’t going to hurt me and I’m not made of fine china. If I ever think you’ve lost your way or if you ever come at me, changed or not, I will kill you. I’ll feel sorry the whole time I’m doing it but you need to understand that I love myself first. I know that you’re older, I get that, and you aren’t my first older man. I’m not naïve or dick struck, I don’t expect us to buy a house together and have the two point five kids. You already had that life and I have no want or need for domestication. You need to enjoy this, before it gets up and walks out the door and you miss it.”
"I’ll keep the rest of that night locked up for now, a time too fine to delve into while I wait here in the dark, except to take note of Annabelle’s final bit of sage advice as I managed two omelets for us the next morning. “Go out tonight. Do something Lady Justice would be proud of. Don’t sit on your ass in your underwear brooding.”
"Well, I’m not in my underwear, so we’ll call it partial credit."
"I appreciate the tone and timber of everything Annabelle said and I appreciate having her in my life, the thing is though, telling someone like me not to overthink is like telling the ocean not to sway or the moon not to shine. Best of fucking luck but it all amounts to stabbing at the ocean waves."
