Better...One
"The very last of the dried goat meat served for breakfast as I brushed the horse down and got my gear secured on her back once again. Emma was all smiles, the sourness of the night before gone like a passing storm. I couldn’t help but remember the lost battles in the war with my ex, or the girls before her. It was pointless to assume that things were all better now."
"All better is in that class of guy thinking that gets us all into trouble. Take fucking out of the equation and it becomes easier to understand, but harder to fix and that’s just the thing. Guys are raised to fix things, you don’t fix people, their problems never end. People require patience, and empathy, and gentle jostling, it doesn’t matter what is or isn’t dangling between their legs. There are no quick applications or steps to take with people, and in my experience, women always expect you to be better than you are ever going to be."
