"Lucan nodded then as well, his demeanor and timber of voice changing completely. “Barbarian was merely their word for anyone who was not already Roman, as though the rest of the world didn’t meet their qualifications for civility. I’ve always found it odd that a people who enslaved millions and enacted countless atrocities had the nerve to thumb their noses at anyone who didn’t dress and act according to their ridiculous system of government or belief.”
