We all watch/cowards...5 liters
"Gris, standing only a few feet away from Garrett backs away from him when she sees the look in his eyes. She backs up into Shay, pushing her out into the street beyond the gate of the little yard. Garrett’s quick, he gives Shay a run for her money as he draws his gun in one seamless motion. The aim is measured and the gun barrel brushes against the man’s forehead."
"Garrett screams at the wide-eyed man, “You watched!”
"Gris puts her hand up, the only time since childhood that she’s tried to calm or stay an act of brutality."
"Garrett pushes the barrel forward, just a bit, and the man’s head rocks against the side wall of his hovel. Garrett sees another face out of the corner of his eye, a woman comes out from the hovel on the other side. He looks over to her, turning away from the man he has his gun pointed at. “And so did you!”
"Garrett listens to the man to his right, he whimpers and urinates in his pants. The woman to his left drops the slop bucket in her hands and runs back inside her hut."
"Garrett howls at the dirty faces peering from inside the relative safety of their huts, “You all, watched! You sat back and you watched, because as awful as it is, at least it didn’t happen to you, right?”
"Garrett switches his aim from the urinating man standing next to him and he points his gun at a man across the lane who has stepped out of his hovel. “You! You heard them right, you heard them turning over furniture and holding her down, right? You heard it and you stayed in there with your brood sow and your squalling brats because it wasn’t your problem, right?”
"The man turns and runs back inside his hovel and Garrett swings his gun and aims it at another man standing in his yard with an axe in his hand. “And you! You don’t look afraid. Where the frak were you while they were in there holding her down and slitting her throat!”
"Shay bypasses Gris and stands in the way of Garrett’s gun. “These people aren’t soldiers, Garrett. What do you want from them?”
"Garrett waves his gun around in a blind arc. “I want decency, I want them to act like human beings, not cow eyed prey animals!” He shouts at all of them, “Run you little animals, cower in your four walled prisons you fraking cowards! They’re dead, they’re both dead and when I leave the only thing left for you to wonder is how to divide their livestock and their belongings. Well, be sure to mind the mattress you filthy curs, it’s seen better days!”
