We used "I love you" as a weapon growing up.
"I know I did ______, but I love you."
"If you loved me you wouldn't ______."
"Well I love you, anyway."
"He hits you because he loves you."
"If you loved me you would _____."
We pinned our love of each other, against each other, to gain things.
We learned our lessons quick and deep while we dug open wounds into each others hearts.
And we never stopped wondering throughout why the words "I love you" always sounded so hollow and felt so cheap.
