I am so happy I have a long weekend. I took today off my job to clean house, get some much needed grocery shopping done and do some office work at my husbands business. Now I have Friday - Monday off. Four whole days of fun!!
Friday my man has a gig at a Irish Pub, can't wait!! There is a huge car show down main street first, then at the pub they have some Irish dancers coming in prior to when my husband's band goes on. Then after the gig about midnight we are going over to our friend's house (the guitar player) for a bon fire and to see his new baby horse.
For everyone who celebrates it, I hope you have a great 4th of July. For every one else, have an awesome weekend!
Quick trip down memory lane:
Last year at this time I was getting ready to climb Mt. Whitney. It was the most awesome trip ever. I went with a really good friend and a group of women. It was a 6 day trip. Day one we drove up to and camped at the packing station. Day 2 was spent on horses then set up camp. I loved the horses. It was the first time I have gone horseback ridding, my ass was a bit sore but it was worth it. Day 3 we back packed up to guitar lake and set up camp. Day 4, 4th of July, we hiked to the summit then back down to camp. It was so awesome to be on top of the mountain, there are no words to describe it. And my friend brought her cell phone so we were able to call our husbands from the top of the mountain. Too cool! Day 5 we back packed out half way (8 hours). That was one hell of hike, a lot of up hill switch backs. Day 6 took the horses back out again to the pack station and as not to be pussies we took the dare and slept out side on under the stars like the cowboys do. (Ha, while the packers, tuff guys they were, slept in their cabins). Drove home the next day.
That was a tough but well worth it trip. I found the altitude on summit day to be very challenging but worked through it. And found the breathing exercises I learned in martial arts to be very helpful. I did this trip because I have always wanted to do something like this though I hear a lot of people say they do trips like this because after its done they feel as though they can accomplish anything. On this trip for me it was not so much a realization as it was a good kick in the ass reminder that I could do anything. I did not realize until then that I had forgotten that lesson that I learned so long ago through Martial Arts training. That is, I really can do whatever I set my mind to and that anything worth having is worth working hard for.
I find it weird how in life these lessons and reminders come when you need it the most. It wasn't even a month since I got back that some serious family shit hit the fan. My newly re-found strength really helped me get through al the shit those months that followed the trip. I really think that sometimes things happen for a reason (not always, but sometimes)
Okay, I am going to try and upload some pics. Hope it works.
