I have had training on my mind this last week.

I have been taking it easy so my back can heal and that is driving me crazy. Pretty much the only exercise I have been getting lately is a total of 40 min. on the elliptical machine 5 days a week at work. I don't have much time so I work with what time I do have and basically use the machine on both my 10 min. breaks and 20 min. during lunch. It works out okay, I do a light workout anyways since I don't want to sweat due to not being able to shower before going back to work. I work out just hard enough to get my heart rate up but not enough to break out in an all out sweat. This is not Ideal for me but it does not bother my back and I figure it is better than sitting on my ass. Beside, going at that pace, I can catch up on my reading while working out.

My back is taking longer to heal this time around. It is at about 60-70% there but it is frustrating, I am learning my lesson. I think I am a little too Gung Ho for my own good. I need to learn to take it slower, my body cannot do what it could 10 years ago. Ha! getting older sucks! smileThis time I am going to be damned sure I am healed 100%. Not 85, 90 or even 95%, I am talking 100% sure that I am 100% healed before working my back again. I just finished reading Complete conditioning for the martial arts and I am coming up with a workout routine that focuses on torso stabilization and lower body strength. When my back is ship shape again I can add upper body exercises.

Through all this I found out that I am really interested in a deeper knowledge of the human body, conditioning and various ways of training. All of my training knowledge is strictly Martial Arts related and not much in the way of general conditioning or weights. Problem is it seems to me that whenever I hear people talk about fitness, everyone has a different opinion and either the info changes a lot over the years or more likely people don't know what they are talking about. That Is why even though I know some things I always say I know nothing. I just don't feel I have enough experience and sound advice to assume that I know anything about it. But I want to learn. So, as with anything I get an itch to learn about, I went to the library.

Gotta love the library!love I found a book called Framework by Nicholas A. DiNubile, M.D. with William Patrick. I have no fucking clue who these people are but the book looks good. Even if there is a whole foreword by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. I am NOT a fan of Aaarnold (with and accent, like in his movies). puke Almost did not pick up the book because of it but I am glad I decided to kick myself in the ass for being a judgemental prick and picked it up anyways. LOL. The book is only 5 years old which is good I think. It can be hard sometimes to find current info in the library and with fitness I have a feeling it is pretty important to stick with the most current information available. Anyways, it seems to be an amazing book and exactly what I need right now.

WOW! I think this is the longest blog I have ever written. Thank you to anyone who actually read the whole thing instead of just skimming over it. wink

Sometimes you need to start training heavier to solve the problem.

Sorry that your back is bothering you!

fitness/etc is filled with info that changes, people who have theories that are really based more on belief or habit, and then the people whose theories are based on selling lots of books and/or their personal trainer business.

Then again-- we're all individuals.
I spent more than the first half of my life trying to totally ignore my body so it was really really difficult to begin to learn to listen to it. I am definately still learning... I still tend to push myself too hard and then get mildly injured or have setbacks before I realize I for instance that that twinge in the top of my foot is the warning sign that means the tendonitis is about to explode and that means that it's time to walk and not run even though I am physically capable of ignoring that and doing a few more miles (but then not being able to run for a week)

sorry this is sort of jumbled.

anyway. aside from the library the other thing I do when I want to research stuff is go to borders without my wallet. heh. or maybe with just enough to buy a coffee, and sit and read the books in the cafe.

I had to learn to do this when I was in nursing school because the 35-50$+ study guides could seem like my salvation when I was most stressed out and studying (this was an illusion. meaning I didn't need them )

I'm a nerd though...I like to compare a couple different explanations of work out theory and then add/subtract/invent my own version to try.
