Okay, one of my nieces is turning 8 on Saturday. As a good aunt I always buy the "girlie" stuff my nieces ask for on their birthdays but also try to fit in something good for her brain. You know, games, crafts, puzzles, anything to make her think.
So I decided this year since she is 8 it is time to start buying books. Let me say I had no fucking clue what I was getting into walking into the children's section of a book store. All I can say WOW. And I can't believe they put all the books for ages 7-12 in the same place. AND, they don't even put specific ages on the book covers, past like age 3! What the fuck is up with that? Don't you think a 7 year old and a 12 year old would read completely different shit? But what do I know. I don't have kids. So after an HOUR (no shitting you) of searching I realized I don't even know what kind of story she would like. Great aunt I am. That was a reality check. Time to spend more time with my nieces.
I did finally find something decent. Figured since it won some book award it must be good. Ha! But of course I decided I need to read it first to be sure. I read the first few chapters. That really should have been enough but no. Because I also just learned that I cannot just read a few chapters and stop reading, knowing I will never to know the rest of the story, even if it is a child's book. I want to know how it all turns out.
So for now Plague of the Dead (which I should say was starting to get really good) is on the back burner until I finish reading Princess Academy. LMFAO! I would do anything for my nieces
I am such a dork.
