Similar to the States? I dont know, Ive never celebrated Xmas in your part of the world.

Tom Cruise isn't really a "samurai" exactly. he's a civil war hero, hired by japanese people to train troops so they can quell a rebellion. he gets captured by the "rebels" which are actually samurai, adhering to the old way of life (the people that hired him are very westernized, and all about the "new way") and starts to learn about them and their ways. So the "last samurai" is about the final fights of the samurai against the westernization of japan. and Cruise does a phenomenal job in the movie. ok, so i haven't done the movie any justice, but that sorta kinda explains it a little more...

Yeah, my brother served over in the Gulf earlier this year. It sucks having a loved one over there. Everytime there was a news report, I couldn't help but think... It got to the point where I had to totally block the thought of him at all from my head. That sucked almost as bad.
