Happy New Year!
Well, my first Suicide Girls entry may as well be on the first day of 2006, good intentions and all that. No doubt it will soon fall by the wayside along with my plans to stop smoking and get a six pack, but hey, one entry is better than none at all.
It feels weird entering a new year, like it does every year. But last night I actually felt a moment of trepidation as the clock struck midnight and we plunged into the 1st January, like I was actually waiting for something to happen, some profound change. It might have been fear, I guess, as 2005 was a damn good year for me and I really don't want that to change. 2005 could have gone on forever, if it had been up to me.
But 2006 could be cool too.
I found out just before Christmas that Faber are going to publish my novel in 2007, quite possibly the most amazing piece of news I've ever had in my life. I was so excited when they called that I dropped the phone and almost cut them off, then banged my head on the desk as I was bending down to pick it up. Instant karma, maybe, as the world tries to balance good things with bad. I'm so excited and it made my Christmas smile even broader than usual.
I'm going to write the sequel this year, then bomard them with all the other bits and pieces I've been writing for forever, even the rubbish stuff.
I truly hope you've all had a really good 2005 as well, and that your 2006 will be even better, with every dream you could possibly hope for coming true and plopping down into your lap just when you need it to most. Let's make this a year to remember.
Cheerio for now!
