My friend F. used to date this really interesting lady. She made all kinds of amazing art and then she took off to LA and left him with a bunch of her stuff. He's now dating another interesting lady who asked him to clear out the other girl's stuff.

That's how I ended up with the two dead rat bodies and my sweet lil' hair doll. The hair doll is made from 100% human hair and has two silver eyes and looks like a little red fuzzy zombie. The dead rats (already dead - not killed for art!) were skinned and almost de-fleshed and encased in some kind of plastic. There they remain kinda floating for years and years and years. The round one is foggy and you can just make out the outline of the ribcage. The rectangular one has been sanded on one side creating a little hole through which to see its little white and red parts.

I looked through the little window this morning as I prepare to make cookies and make presents and make nice.

i think the hair doll and the rats have some kind of connection. i see the hair doll as some sort of leader, possibly sending bitey and dry boy on missions of which we have no grasp. important missions. deadly missions. hide your socks.

+he designed the fonts melior, palatino, and optima: one of the best fonts ever, especially when it is really large or even in 3-D, so you can see the tapered stems.

+he makes incredibly beautiful items.

+the tribute to him was called "Zapfest".

+He is married to an adorable calligrapher and type designer: Gudrun Zapf von Hesse.

+he has aged amazingly well.
