I spent the weekend with cigarettes. I slept curled up in an ashtray and chewed on filters every night before bed. I rubbed their burning embers into my eyes. I scraped off the soft pink tissue in my throat with fiberglass. On the bus ride home I could no longer speak because of the pain in my throat. I had secret thoughts about nice people getting large black tumors. "That'll learn them!"
