Holy shit fuck that was an amazing show. Let's start from the beginning.
Once upon a time there was a punk rock band that formed creating a socially aware force known as Propagandhi. With song filled with outrage and driven by wicked riffs and powerful lyrics they were scheduled to rock the Fun Haus.
Being pumped for the show, like any good punk rocker, I eagerly awaited their set and showed up good and early. UNFORTUNATELY, there were three opening acts to wait thru, like the trials of Hercules, each trial (band) worse than the preceding. Opening with a moderately bad punk rock band that at times sounded like moneen and at others like thursday, it was still toe tapping so we grabbed some beer and dealt with it. Then the second band came on, GFK. Now this is a band that I would say was going for a hard-core screamo type sound, but I swear that if the singer had a lyric sheet not a single word was over one syllable, with foul sounding music that eventually made us go outside for a smoke just to get away from the noise (as only one of us in the group actually smokes) Then came the final trial. Oh and it was a hard one. This hip-hop guy came onstage. Now he had a DJ, this DJ decided not to DO anything, but he was there. The only thing memoriable about this hip-hop guy was that he kept yelling "When I say Resist, you say War" Yeah, how cool. By this time we are starting to forget how much we LOVE Propagandhi, he have been listening to this garbage for almost 3 hours and decide that if Prop doesn't wow us with the first two songs we are leaving. So he finishes his one "song" and then this girl gets onstage and with a rudimentary beat starts yelling out some shit, trying to teach the audience spanish for some reason. Then the hip-hoptress takes a total U-Turn and the DJ starts playing some hardcore music and she starts screaming to it. It didn't really last that long, despite the fact that she spouted off the slogan "Fuck Bush" a couple times, shewas booed off stage and all was well again. For then our suffering was rewarded.
Propagandhi! Oh what a set they played. I lasted about three songs in the back before I drawn forward. Forcing my way thru the crowd I merged into the flowing mass of people that is a mosh pit and didn't return until almost the last song when my lungs were on fire and I couldn't breathe any longer. This also impressed the fuck outta me as before I quit smoking I could usually only make it thru one song in a pit before my chest would start burning so hurray for a visible POSITIVE effect of not smoking, I was starting to wonder if there was a reason I quit.
So that was the night, please don't get the idea that just because all the negative bullshit lead up that the show was garbage, just the first three hours, I look back at that night and realize that even DESPITE that crap that Propagandhi was probably one of the best acts I've ever seen and I had a blast that I will remember for years! I wish all my Ottawa Punk Rawkers could have been there with me to enjoy the great show, but I am glad that they got to see them in Ottawa atleast.
