St. Elmo and His Fire
The sky is dull grey beyond the palisade
This cathedral of dead trees surrounding me
Slate turns to pitch as a cool breeze blows
The sky is dark now and full of sparks
And in the distance a shimmering curtain
Dances before the waning moon
I stare with wide-eyed wonder
Beguiled with twilight reveries
Of cold black seas and my time in the North
Of those thirteen years spent in wanderlust
Of that cold night at sea long ago
When I saw St. Elmo and his fire
So what does anyone think?
The sky is dull grey beyond the palisade
This cathedral of dead trees surrounding me
Slate turns to pitch as a cool breeze blows
The sky is dark now and full of sparks
And in the distance a shimmering curtain
Dances before the waning moon
I stare with wide-eyed wonder
Beguiled with twilight reveries
Of cold black seas and my time in the North
Of those thirteen years spent in wanderlust
Of that cold night at sea long ago
When I saw St. Elmo and his fire
So what does anyone think?
