It's Nuts How Much my TV Habits Have Changed..

As I continue to split my time between work life..single parent life..editing sets and play catch up on missed @bloghomework I was super excited when @rambo @missy and @lyxzen posed the question what shows we are currently streaming/chilling with..I instantly got nostalgic growing up in the latch key generation and most of my afternoon babysitters were television shows that would be mindless background noise and stimulation as I had my nose in some new piece of art or painting or drawing at the time..I was always the type who could rewatch rerun after rerun of favorite shows and would probably have some sort of encyclopedic memory of scenes and meanings in whatever episode was on..There are times when I'd think it'd be kinda fun to give a slight tribute and nod to certain shows who played such an influential role to the style of art I make and photos I shoot in a series of SG sets..At one point, TV played such an important role in my life..I strongly considered basing my MFA thesis all around certain aspects of it..

Anyway, nostalgia aside..I sometimes wonder if my schedule allowed it more would I fall back into the daily habit of constantly streaming shows both on air and those which have been long gone..I thought about what I do watch regularly and recently switching over to an Apple TV and having to become more creative not having the comfortably of cable to rely on what I really can't live without..

The first three letters that have seemed to instantly always comes to mind are HBO..Hands down they are constantly producing creatively innovative shows that are addicting and have a tendency to change the face of tv at times..I do think sometimes they play a too conservative role and pull plugs too early on shows that are hitting a strong stride and push the envelope on the standard expectations of tv..This season's sad example and victim is Togetherness..from the Duplass brothers dealing with the frustrations of adulthood and marriage..It's such a great show and I was so bummed and upset to hear HBO chose not to bring it back..

That said..it's not like there isn't a lack of other shows to binge on until they premiere their next show I'll seemingly (based on personal history of choices in shows) I'll get obsessed with and love..I could probably write paragraphs about each and everyone of these but then I'll be here all day..haha..So I'll just list em quickly Six Feet Under,Deadwood,Silicon Valley..there are WAY more but trying to stay current..Not to mention, Game of Thrones..I mean c'mon Game of Thrones..Yes..Game of Thrones!! and who can't forget Girls..Oh Lena Dunham..there's so much good about you but at times something really annoying..but I think that might be both part of your charm and success and I can't stop watching..

Now if I wanted to keep on down the route of praising various networks for the amount of binge worthy shows they have available to stream, again I could go for days..especially with this next show, who's network has quickly made themselves what HBO was when it first began to make waves in the world of Television..Also worth noting has some super strong shows that I have no issues rewatching at any point of their seasons at a drop of a hat..If you haven't guessed it yet, I'm talking about AMC and before I get myself started, I'm only gonna talk about my current infatuation that will have me rewatching old seasons until the next six episodes hit the air or are stream able, The Walking Dead..There's so much I still end up learning and finding when I rewatch episodes and I'm not sure I've ever had such an emotional attachment to characters in many other shows as I've had with this one..When you have no idea how their storylines can top their previous ones and they continue to amaze you with such a creative approach on such a morose and dark themed show as a zombie riddled apocalyptic future seemingly in today's world..

When thinking of non serialized shows I stream and chill to ESPN Sportcenter quickly comes to mind. Growing up playing sports and always having an ear open to favorite teams based on whatever current sports season as well as my newer addiction to fantasy football (more for the stars and not the gambling aspect of it) Regardless of the sport really, I find myself always turning the TV in hotels when traveling straight to Sportscenter like it's some sort of strange stock ticker tape my brain needs to relax..hah..i know I'm strange...

Finally, two shows that I think I'd probably sit down and not leave the house for and would base my daily schedule around binge rewatching them..It would have to be Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Fringe..Both had such a fantastical approach on everyday life and were trendsetting in the original ways they were able to tell stories within a seialized show continuing on the show's overall theme while building momentum towards their own overall story arcs..Honestly I could probably write a blog on its own centered around the geniuses of both Joss Whedon and JJ Abrams and the presence and affect they've had on both TV and American Culture in both the 20th-21st century thus far..

To tell you the truth, I'm such a TV nerd I would probably would write that post and spend hours mulling over theories and memories from favorite shows and episodes from both of them..Even worst, give me more time and I'll start listing more shows that ive forgotten about when I first started writing this and have now remembered since..I just figured this was a good way to busy my brain and pass time until my debut set, Eat Me Drink Me with @hensely hits MR later today..I'm so anxious to see how it's received and nervous and excited..Hopefully you guys enjoy it as much as we do..Anyway, what are some of your favorite shows to stream and chill with?

chef:
Joss Whedon could have his own blog for each show he made I think :) perhaps divided my seasons.
