Only 3mos??? Damn that does seem fast.... BUT.... there's a part of me that wants to believe it can happen like that and really workout for them, but then there is the cynic in me that gives a limited amount of time before they get divorced. But it's their lives to live how they see fit. They are older, both previously married maybe they just know what they want. We can only wish them the best and hope for more joy than sorrow. Still, I can think of numerous "friends" I thought I knew well, but then even after a few years turned out to be different than i realized.

I know you want your mom to be happy, so support her. And if it fails, don't say I told you so because she will probably already be hard on herself.
