This is my opnion: When I got my mermaid half sleeve, I thought about getting a seahorse for my first tattoo and adding on to it as I went. Then I thought about it a ton and decided that I wanted to get the entire picture drawn up and then start out with the outline.
It looked like a coloring book and it made me feel like I had to finish it right away because it looked not finished for a really long time. But, it tied it all together really nicely, I was sure I would like the outcome before I started instead of trying to figure out where and how I was going to encorporate things in. It also gave me time to think of the colors that I wanted more adn how I wanted it to look because I could stare at the outline.
Thats my advice. Getting big tattoos is really expensive and time consuming, I am really glad that I did though pretty much every day I look at it and like it.
