No longer is that my apartment, and no longer is that my hair--hell, that's not even what my face looks like anymore--and why don't I have my glasses on in my profile pics?--you'll never meet me without them...
But apparently this pic accompanied by the caption "I am often suspicious of dishtowels--you know what I mean" makes Sorcha bellow a ringing bellylaugh, and so I...

That's very big of you.
If it's any small consolation, it's a "Sports Mode" Automatic, which means I can still override the auto and shift up and down manually.
I can drive stick. I just don't know why I'd want to.

It's Wednesday, so let's talk about poetry. I don't think I have a poem for you today, but I've got some things to say.
Ah... No, this rant is too long and tiring for me to deliver. Sorry. It was going to take to task those idiots who claim to "love poetry" though they've never read (or even purchased) a single volume of poetry and...

heehee, yeah, that's the previous issue, it seems to be an article about blogging. I think. The next one is better, if you like blurry photos of me in a kid's bridal veil.

do you know of any good free web cam services that I can use here on SG? I tried webcam first but it wouldn't download correctly
My vanity pulls me in one direction, though my head runs screaming the other way.

Precipitation does have a way of ruining my chances at making a suave first impression, but not tonight, oh no. Tonight I'm sipping camomile tea and sitting in my pj's instead of making any kind of first impression on superflea, with whom I was to take in a musical performance. I am officially bummed, for my socially life is all but non-existent. I only...

I knit. And I have to figure out how to follow patterns strictly.

When you write about not being able to get a job in publishing, I think of Dean Allen, of textism, who never graduated high school, spent years working all over the book industry without ever being a writer or editor, and now lives an idyllic life in the south of France doing freelance book design with the love of his life. Stick it out and you will be rewarded in some great karmic way.
I'm between crafts at the moment, but in my old craft, it was important to 1. always historicize and remember that 2. the text isn't the language. Though I suspect no. 2 was stolen from 3. the map isn't the territory.

Saw a play today produced and directed by close friends of mine. I feel badly for them that they have to put such untalented people to use for lack of better resources, and that they have to try to maintain a level of artistry while working alongside people whose performances would make Olivier weep. I was glad it was a matinee I saw, so I...

Drat! When I read your journal, I figured you might be down for the count. Being sick is very little fun. I'm hopeful that photogrrl and I can still get a lunch together, but even if we can't, it's not as though Toronto isn't an easy trip to make. The unexpected one-two punch of the computer needing some bodywork and of the serious consideration of a car played a little havoc with my vacation schedule, but I think my plans (of a proper toronto visit and other locales) have merely been delayed, and certainly not cancelled.
Besides, I still have some friends to see and shopping to do while I'm in town, and will manage to stay busy.
I hope that your health improves and you manage to make it out, because not only am I delightful company (even if "this is a guy I met on a porn site" might make for a marginally awkward introduction to my friends
), but because I'm sure it will be a hell of a show. But if it's just not in the cards, then I'll settle for you simply getting better.
Deal?

i read up until the part of you describing your sickyness.
i refuse to read further for fear of contamination.
shoo you. don't make me sick. i have been sick enough this winter.

Jesus, Wednesday's almost over and I've not posted a poem. Now, you could always go back and see what I was up to in the wee hours one night last week, or you can read the piece below. Hell, why not do both? Live a little!

Ah, ya caught me. Hell, I was on the boards most of last week. I tried to be sly about it, but I'm sure the minor caught a boob or two. Oops.
I've just been hella slacking on my journal, and journal comments for others. It's an ebb and flow kinda thing for me. I'll write about my week with the kid soon. I promise. Probably.
(I've just been so distracted by my shiny new computer.

Sunday night - doors at 9pm, show at 9:30, according to the listing at Doughty's website. That should facilitate an early retreat to Mississauga.
I'm going out with some friends from Toronto for dinner, and I expect we'll get to Lee's Palace around 9ish. Sound good?

Science has a way of going to one's head anyway... at least it does for me.
superflea:
I'm back.
It couldn't have been Jesus in the bathroom stall. Jesus was clearly busy arranging for three brand new Protege 5s in the colour and trim I wanted (they have a moonroof, which, in addition to making me ask what's the fucking difference between a sunroof and a moonroof?, I very distinctly didn't want, but at this point I'm willing to play ball) to show up at the local Mazda dealership. I'm beside myself with unabashed glee.
I finally saw the Mazda 3 Sport up close. It does look like a space car, but I don't like it in person anymore than I liked it on the webpage or in the commercials. The Mazda 3 sedan is an awfully sexy bitch, but the Protege 5 stops me cold at every viewing. Today will be an exciting day of insurance quotes and preliminary haggling with the salesman.
I'm prepared to walk away if the deal doesn't look good... I'd really been planning on making the purchase in a few months, and I'd have a few more financial ducks in a row by that point, but if this works out, I can swing it.
Sweet, sweet indipendence. Goodbye, Greyhound. Goodbye taxis. Goodbye, crappy grocery store across the road that systematically stops carrying every single food item I like. Goodbye, waiting for the bus.
Hellllllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooo car!!!

I rented Aguirre, Wrath of God on Friday. Werner Herzog, early 80's, soundtrack by Popul Vuh, shot in the Amazon basin, production nearly torn apart from stresses of shooting on location. It's amazing, but in a very Teutonic, controlled way. The friction between knowing about the conditions of the shoot (I've heard people describe it as the German Apocalypse Now and the restrained final product amaze me. It makes me want to watch more Herzog, if that's any indication.
Speaking of church and worship, earlier today, I was invited by my mother to a traditional Italian Easter celebration sometime next month, or whenver Easter actually is. I begged off by explaining that my other half and I usually like to spend Sundays eating the babies of our enemies, and eating Peeps and the ears of chocolate bunnies is a poor substitute.
If you liked 8 1/2, you have to see The Clowns and La Strada.
