No poetry today, folks. I'm gonna go take a nap soon and then stare at a blank page for a couple of hours.

Dogslife's problem #9482: I know nothing about constructing narrative.

* * * * *

Addendum: Honestly, I know nothing about it. The 3-act thing screenwriters talk about? I don't know what that means. I don't know how to raise action to a...

Oh, and I'll give you Adrian Belew (and I wouldn't sneeze at Robert Fripp... well, okay, I would, but only because he'd sample it, fuck it up, and turn it into something cool).

But Outside is my absolute favourite album of all time, and Earthling ranks right behind it in my favourite Bowie albums list. The music that David and Reeves made together is a glorious noise like no other, and I'm sad that their collaboration is ended.

I'm most sad about the fact that I missed the tours for both those albums, and that I won't get the chance to see them live. I may have occasion to go down to LA sometime this year or next for work, and my first social stop will be at the Baked Potato, where Reeves holds court on a pretty regular basis.

But it won't be the same as watching him throw down on "Through These Architect's Eyes", y'know?

Ginny and I just saw Eternal Sunshine.

I loved it.

Have I told you I'm sentimental? Yes, well, I am. I think sentiment's important. Sentiment is what's worth preserving. Sentimentality I can do without; its feverish emoting embarrasses me.

But to be sentimental, that is, attuned to feelings, to bury your face in them as you would a departed lover's coat, is a good...

The one "love" part of Sunshine that *did* play for me was the Doctor/Nurse love affair. I wanted to see a whole movie about them, because they made it completely believable in about 3 minutes.

And did I actually write a line as bad as, "The joyous wine of feeling smacks of its own hangover"? Oh, god. Must've been the joyous wine. robot

CriticalOverSite and I are going to see Rush in Detroit on 8 June. You and ginny are more than welcome to join us. We'll more than likely get lawn tickets, so buying them separately isn't an issue.

(You know... I feel so weird whenever I refer to her as "ginny" since I know her real name).

Girlfriend on the bed reading this month's Esquire, fantasizing about being a rat because they can screw 20 times a day.

Acoustic guitar not coping as well as it could with the sudden rise in humidity. No money to fix it if something's come loose inside.

Tummy rumbling, but not much to eat in the apartment. May have to settle for a bowl of Lucky...

If there were a race of aliens who came to earth and walked among us reading our thoughts they'd do well to stay the fuck away from me unless they want a melded mind full of this.

That image has had me twitching all day.

It's the Stile Project. What more needs to be said? Except for perhaps the fact that I've seen worse over there.

Thanks for not making note of my poor typing in that last entry.

I love how I click on things that I clearly shouldn't. It's like when you were in the lunchroom in grade school, you friend would mix all his foods and go "Ewwww gross, here taste this!".

No poem today, folks.

Last year, on March 17, I believe it was, I got a thin envelope from U of T that contained a letter which sent my life off the course it had been on for five years. It was a letter from the English department wishing me luck in finding a PhD program more suited to my needs. I reeled at the...

hi,
the first paragraph of that letter is egg-zactly why i did not opt to write a thesis or go to grad school. i want to be fucking OBSESSED with whatever i am writing hundreds of pages about. This wasn't happening in college.

Failure. I think that my failures have resulted from inaction rather than the good 'ol try-and-a-let-down (three bits). So, while it's ridiculous to say i never failed at anything, i never invested any of myself in something to the extent that *not* doing/getting/finishing seemed to be failure.

I am a sad bad cad lad.

p.s. tell your darling lifemate helpmeet that i can't be suavely skanky in her journal unless she makes an entry. wink

For the record: I haven't given up yet. This is one school out of four. There is still a chance. And this wasn't my first choice anyway.

For now, I'm choosing to ignore the obvious facts:

1. This is the second time this school has rejected me.
2. This should have been an easy school to get into because it's where I did my MA (not to mention the amount of ass-kissing and free work I've been doing for them since).
3. Comparative Literature (at two institutions) and Communications and Culutre are a long shot given what I want to study.

Besides, I don't like being judged. Maybe professorship is not the life for me (a pirate's life for me! AAARRRGH!) frown

It is a sad thing to realize your friends no longer have time for you, and that in truth, they never really have included you in their plans, and you were always late to the party anyway, when they remembered to invite you at all.

The wedding of the cousin that I feared would dash my hopes of attending SG Prom in Toronto takes place on the 22nd of May. By then the tattoo should have healed a good deal and the soreness of having danced my sweet ass of will have mostly subsided.

This is good news indeed.

Also, I just got tickets to see my beloved Rufus in...

Very strange couple of hours at work today. I actually felt stress, real, honest to god stress, like adults have when they're worried about their careers. I'm embarrassed about it now. I didn't break down or snap at anyone, but I felt the weight pressing down on me as my regional director (a cool guy I worked for when he was a store manager) and...

Digging

By Seamus Heaney

Between my finger and my thumb
The squat pen rests; snug as a gun.

Under my window, a clean rasping sound
When the spade sinks into gravelly ground:
My father, digging. I look down

Till his straining rump among the flowerbeds
Bends low, comes up twenty years away
Stooping in rhythm through potato drills
Where he was digging.

The coarse boot...

It's still just in the consideration stage.

The early consideration stage. So dinna worry just yet. (Although I appreciate the sentiment. And I'd be pretty disappointed if you announced you were pulling up stakes.)

So shut up and play yer guitar.
