My brother's going to NY to see Brad Mehldau at the Village Vanguard this week. I would have thought that was enviable 6 months ago, but I've been to the Vanguard myself since then and I know for a fact that the surreally intimate performance space will cause his head will asplode before Mehldau opens up on "Paranoid Android."

And yet I wish it were...

Can we request a former member be admitted, without prejudice, without being on the high commission? Kes

I wanna know how to play SG Favourites Deathmatch.

I also wanna know how to play like Reeves Gabrels.

And I also wanna Bogner Uberschall so I can say I have a fancy pants amp, even if it's a fancy pants amp designed to sound like the Death Star.

Come on. You knew that was the only way it could end.

you're the best mad-libber ever, hands down.

and yeah, you're clever--your stuck with clever--as far as I can tell you have no way out of clever. The ideal dogslife style will have to be built on a foundation of clever. there are way worse things to be.

Apparently, you can make your favourite SGs duel to the death up there on the favourites bar.

Siv really beat the crap out of Drake and Oryx totally cleaned Twwly's clock. At some point Al left, probably to get a bazooka.

Who will still be standing when Al returns?!

UPDATE: Done! Now I've got the complete works of Alice Munro to my left (along with damn near everything by Peter Carey, Leonard Cohen, and J M Coetzee), and to my right is the Concise OED and the OED of Etymology. The latter two were badly neglected in my pre-nook life. I'll be forever sorry, but I'll also make it up to them. For starters...

soundslike me when I decide the cd rack has fallen out of order.

Have you read Walter Benjamin's essay Unpacking My Library? It might be good for a laugh when you're finished.

We had to buy extra bookshelves to segregate my books from my roomies' many copies of things like Annals of WWII: Vol IX. I hope you and Ginny have somewhat more simpatico tastes.

And judging from her pictures, you guys should become house painters! Did you collaborate on the choice of colors?

It's been a while and I'm drunk on Polish porter.

In other words, it's time to update.

We moved into the new place on Sunday. Today we're pretty much unpacked. That is, we can perform day to day functions without any problems, though the pictures still need to be hung and there are pieces of furniture we still need to buy*. We're presently averaging $100/day...

So, let me get this straight... you get a book nook, yet Ginny doesn't get a sewing nook? I think you're hogging the nooks in that place eeek wink

I'm suffering from 'nook-envy'.

Thank you all for your kind words.

Wolf's passing hit me a lot harder than I thought it would. It didn't matter that I'd told myself all along that dying is what old dogs do; when I got the voicemail from Ginny Monday afternoon I was suddenly frozen and shot through full of holes. I had to rein my mind in all day to keep...

I'm really sorry about Wolf. I never got to meet him, but I know that anything you love is eminently precious.

No, you're right and not being a total Mr Downerpants (which has immediately become a favourite new expression of mine, thanks!) - academic employment requires a miracle.

But, at this stage, I'm just after an admin-y job (preferably with a theatre company or arts organisation). I missed out on a company I really liked but have another application for another company going in today.

Just got back from a 5 hour session of cleaning the fuck out of the new apartment.

God, some people and their filth. Unfortunately, we didn't take many "before" shots. There were enough french fries scattered about the kitchen to go into a Happy Meal, and a cob's worth of popping corn kernels too. The A/C may never be run at full power again since...

Some couples on here seem to live entirely separate lives. You wonder from their journals when was the last time they talked seriously about what's on their minds. Nothing wrong with that, or necessarily right either, but when your mate's in pain there just seems something indecent about projecting a front of obliviousness.

Ginny's dog Wolf (or Wolfy, or Uch, or any one of...

The merit of paying rent on two apartments for one month has yet to crystallize, though I must say I am relishing the thought of not having 20 boxes of books to move (and those solid beech bookcases) in a couple weeks.

Still, I get a tingle when I think of my life in a month involving 20-minute subway trips home from wherever I might...

Fair enough, I see your point.

It was the writing part that got me interested, but looking back at the group description, the writing is limited to some sort of commentary.

I write fiction but don`t want to limit myself to that. Travel writing appeals as well as book and game reviews. I`m also into trees and their associated myths. Is this the sort of thing you are looking for?

If this fits in with you guys let me know. I`m still interested, as any writing is interesting to me.

If you feel that`s not what you`re up for from a member, then no hard feelings.

Keep well
