4/19: What did you want to be as a kid, and what is your profession now?

What a fun topic to pick back up on the homework with!

I have had many dreams from childhood all through my teens and into my adult years. When I was in my elementary years — having been raised by my super religious aunt — I wanted to be a missionary. THATS RIGHT, I wanted to travel the world and tell em all about the glory of God. Well, twists and turns happened, I saw the basis of religion to be a total facade for shallow judgements and an excuse to exclude. I will always have respect for the Faith, I just wish to see the practice hold more compassion.

Anywho, moving in to my middle school years I was sports obsessed. I had been a nationally ranked inline speed skater for years. I wanted to go professional and compete in Worlds, become sponsored, switch to ice and make my way to the olympics. This was my goal through the age of 16, when I busted my knee a week before the nationals I was favored to win. I was devastated. Being in a knee immobilizer for two months really made me reevaluate my path. From there I went back and forth between wanting to be in the health industry or the beauty industry. I’ve always been particularly interested in anatomy, and since I injured my knee physical therapy was one thing I was interested in pursuing. But I’ve never been too keen on studying, and I know how much kinesiology entails.

After high school I ended up attending beauty school for cosmetology. This is where I learned that I HATE hair — but never the less I persisted for as long as I could. I gained my love of esthetics during beauty school. I genuinely enjoy waxing, absolutely love makeup artistry, and am a super nerd about skincare and particular ingredients! I am not licensed in the field of esthetics, so I do not perform the treatments regularly — but I do intend on dually licensing myself in both estethics and massage. This way, I’ll be able to combine my love of health and beauty.

Today, I am the manager of an intimate Organic, Ethical, Intentional Day Spa! Here I advise guests on their skincare needs, perform makeup applications, occasional waxings and body scrubs, as well as all of the operational tasks that keep a small business running (i.e. payroll, scheduling, ordering, inventory, administrative tasks, social media, networking, and communications). I am very happy where I am at, but would love to own my own space where I can perform dual treatments and help heal the community.

Once my daughter is school age, I plan on putting myself through Aveda’s CIDESCO program and attending the California School of Herbal Studies. After I obtain my dual license and herbal medicine certificate, I will experiment with creating my own skincare and cosmetics.

It is amazing to see how mutable and changeable my dreams and goals have been over the years. I suppose the one common ground I’ve always held dear is Compassion 💘 and I hope to remain grounded in the highest form of love so I may do my best to radiate light to all.

Anyway, what did you want to be or do when you were young?!

Thank you @missy and @rambo for the blog homework every week!

Until next time, my loves.

Warmly,

Pixen
