I have a feeling that art is like physics. We can understand why some physical things work, and we have a very good understanding of the very large principles which operate within complex systems; v = d/t for example. In a similar fashion, we can understand the basic principles of music, such as chord structure. Through this, we can attempt to grade art, so that one thing might be demonstrated to be better than the other. But once we get past a certain point in physics, our understanding breaks down. Similarly, once we get past a certain point in art, we are unable to effectively understand its mechanisms. Furthermore, there is a fundamental problem in physics which suggests that on a very small scale, the act of observance by a person disrupts the action so much as to render its prior state immeasurable. We simply cannot know. Perhaps the same happens in art.
That made me laugh Interesting journal too!
MUAH!!
