kallisti's photoset has such irony right now.

I've realized that no matter what, my life is going to be filled with extremes.... best to roll with them with my chin up.

I probably never shared this, but my family is filled with crazy depressed people, and alcoholics. At least once a year some drama occurs, and no not typical crying fighting drama. It's happened so often that I've become a bit desensitized to the pain that my family feels, and I just get through it - I try and keep perspective on what I can actually do, how much I can actually help, and I focus there and do what I can.

Do I not care? of course not. but yes, it's harder for me to react.

Anyhow. This time, I'm reacting.

Today we got a phone call, and learned that my cousin had committed suicide by jumping out of a hotel window, in the middle of the day, in the middle of a large metropolitan city. Tragic, I know.

But if this weren't bad enough, photographers were there. They caught it all on film. And the photos were in all the large newspapers the next day.

If you live in this city you probably saw these pictures, read the news, and are experiencing the public uproar this has caused, as to how 4 newspapers can be so caullous and heartless as to show photographs of a woman in pain, sitting on a ledge, jumping from the window, and then of her body on the ground (yes, they actually published this).

And as if this wasnt bad enough, the press is calling our family, asking us for our comments - we tried to keep her nieces from finding out what happened (they are less than 12 years old), but no, they found out - WHEN THE PRESS CALLED AND SPOKE TO THEM DIRECTLY.

Fucking heartless people.

Anyhow, yeah, that photoset is ironic - because there's nothing sexy or beautiful about jumping out a window, not when it happens for real.

Yeah, I agree there is nothing beautiful about it, I have an aunt that jumped into a quarry. I'm sorry for your loss, beautiful lady.
