I spent most of the morning trying to figure out how to put a couple songs onto an iPod. I've decided that iTunes may technically be compatible with PCs, but it is certainly not compatible with dingoes8s.

Pointless Mac rant within. Feel free to ignore it, it has very little significance.

I am pretty technologically savvy. But that program is just not user friendly. I use Windows Explorer for everything. It's easy to navigate. I have all my album seperated by into folders. But iTunes doesn't seem to recognize folders and instead makes me scroll through a list of all 2,000 or however many artists I have files from. So it really doesn't do me any good if I have miscellaneous tracks seperated by folders. Luckily, I realized I can drag and drop stuff from Windows Explorer, so I didn't need to mess around with the interface too much after that. So I created a new playlist and dragged them all in from Explorer. Then it came to actually putting the files onto the iPod, which was also extremely difficult. You'd think there would be a "Transfer to iPod" button somewhere on the screen, or at least that option in one of the menus, since that's what the program is sessentially made for. But no. I had to read the Help file and click through a bunch of stuff before I finally got it to where I could drag and drop stuff onto the iPod within the program. It kept asking me if I wanted to wipe the iPod and replace everything on it with my computer's library. Why would anyone want to do that? It's just... grahhh.

I've had this kind of experience every time I tried to use an Apple machine/product. Maybe I'm just dumb. In any case, I've decided that I don't want an iPod anymore. Yeah, this wasn't even for me, it was for my friend. Who has... a different taste in music that I do not appreciate. But I volunteered anyways. Aren't I nice? Now I have a bunch of Justin Timberlake songs on my computer.

Friends are supposed to share common interests, right? It would be cool to have friends who liked my kind of music and could handle horror movies. The music thing isn't really that big a deal, because listening to music is more solitary. But it would be nice to have someone introduce me to stuff I hadn't heard before. But movies are more of a shared thing. I don't remember the last time I saw a movie with someone that I chose. Because every time I suggest a movie, it gets shot down and we end up watching Shopgirl (which was a good movie, sure, but I generally prefer a higher zombie to love triangle ratio).

My perfect outing consists of:
Vegetarian restaurant
Horror movie after dinner
Punk music in the car

I'd settle for one of the three, but I don't even get that. Ah, whatev. I guess I felt a little ranty today. But I'm not in a bad mood. I actually have 4 days off of work (4!), and I'm seeing some family this weekend, so I'm looking forward to that.
