Today is National Mental Health Week in the UK and as someone who has suffered from PTSD and its many symtoms for most of my Adult Life i think it was important to mention something here. The main thing i wqnted to say is that when we look at all these beautiful women here it is easy to think things like 'she has a geat life' , 'she must be so happy' , 'wish i could be like her' but we don't know what is going on in their life and just because they look happy in their photos doesnt mean they are not going through difficulties in their lives. From what i understand ( and apologies if i am wrong) modeling is much like acting in that they decide with the photographer what look, emotions they want to portray in the set and then dress, pose accordingly!!
When the camera is not on them the models may be going through all sorts of difficulties in their lives including mental health issues!! Yes we all get the blues and have bad days but depression, anxiety etc is so much more than that!!. Sufferers of mental health issues can become very good actors in that they portray a happyness when in public but can be in the depths of dispair. People may financially need to keep working and dont want bosses to know they are struggling to cope, they may need to work to help them cope and/or they may need to keep up socail
It was nearly 18 months between my being raped and my breakdown and in that time i became very good at putting on a mask to show everyone at home and at work i was okay and it was this constant stuggle to put on a show that led to my breakdown!! As a result of my breakdown i lost my voice for 7 weeks and the doctors said it was my minds way of taking a break. I still suffer from PTSD and only socailise with family as i find that easier even tbough i still find myself putting on a show!
I will close by saying that there is a real person in each of the photos we veiw and admire here and while most of them are probably as happy as they look there will be others who are going through difficult times and trying to battle on!! I follow several SGs and Hopefuls on socail media and know some have been through and / or still going through difficulties and they are all so brave💖💖💖
