My sister is getting deployed to Iraq tonight. This happens a few days before an event I am organizing here in Tucson with Fernando Suarez, who's son was killed during the war in Iraq. He will be speaking to a large group of high school and college students about joining the military-telling them to think twice before they join-and to make a passionate argument for bringing the troops home.
The timing of these things is somewhat ironic and it is making me seriously consider taking a trip to Baghdad to see my sister and to write a freelance article about the situation in Iraq. Now I just need to figure out costs........
