Congratulations on the engagement! From the picture, you two look happy and make a sweet couple. It's encouraging to know that two good people found each other in this world.

I got engaged!!

Blimey. It's a bit bonkers. People talk about that "when you know you know" thing, and I thought a few times in the past that the woman I was with might be 'the one', but this time I know. She is. _The_One_.

I'm very very very happy.

What's that? Did I go down on one knee? No way. At my age? You've...

BRITISH GAS are fucking useless. Fair play. I've spent about 8 trying to get them to send me a bill for my gas meter. I really hate it when all i want is for them to tell me how much I owe, and then let me pay them. Grr.

APART from that things are ticking over well here. The NHS changes are pretty scary, but...

"You don't need those meds, they're just a crutch."

Cor blimey, that's annoying when people say that. There's two groups of people you'd never say that to. People like diabetics; you'd never say "stop with that insulin, it's just a crutch", because we know that some people need the meds to function. But the other group are people who have (for example) broken a leg...

Mental health problems are so misunderstood, even by doctors. Even by people who claim to be mental health professionals! I was given Ativan for a panic attack at one point, and later read that it should not be given to patients who have had psychotic episodes, which I have indeed had.

What's really bad, though, is when someone with a mental health problem won't take medication because of their misconceptions about them (which, of course, they have acquired from the people who don't understand medication/mental health issues).

I use Barbasol on my legs. That's a shaving cream sold in the U.S., intended for men with large beards. Gives you an idea of what I'm up against. eeek

Edited because I've never heard of a shaving cream being indented for anything.

Coincidentally, I was reading a past thread about antidepressants which made me check your profile - you speak a lot of sense smile

I use disposable razors, and butcher my face twice weekly - my facial hair is far from prolific!

internet cafes are sub-optimal for SG, you know?

What's the best pet for someone who's not really allowed to keep pets?

How about interesting beetles, or stick-insects? What would you recommend?

I'm echoing the reptile comment by rollerdisco above. Um, let's see... rodents have strong (noticable) odors; birds make noise; fish are easy but pointless if not displayed (indiscreetly)... this is tough.

What about a praying mantis? Or one of those larger, giant beetle-like roaches? (Although I hear that roaches need a lot of moisture or they'll dehydrate.) I don't think those need a lot of space, but I could be wrong.

I had a cactus called Git. he was quite enough looking after for me. have just found an adoptive home for him, because i can't take him with me when i leave the country, which actualy made me quite sad... in terms of actual pets though... you could go for mice, and then if you got caught with them, say that you'd had an infestation, but tamed them! smile

Hmm... shirts and ties, huh? funnily enough i have a plan for a photoset involving those, but it needs a quite specific setting. cross fingers for me!

I've been sunbathing on my roof terrace.

Ah... smile

I love this early May warmth. So optimistic for the months ahead.

I wish they'd let us work outside. mad We need waterproof network points buried in the group or something.

My ex-landlords COTTESLOE PROPERTIES are a bunch of FUCKING WANKERS

That's it, the end.

Hope everyone else is getting on okay. smile
mck:
Yes, but never mind. Thank you! Hope you're OK.
mat8drb:
Sorry to hear that. Landlords seem to delight in making people's lives a misery.

Most of my school lessons sucked. But I'm glad they didn't need to include lessons about HIV awareness. eeek frown

From Zimbabwe-

Given the seriousness of the pandemic, said Health and Child Welfare Minister David Parirenyatwa, AIDS awareness should be accorded the same importance as any other subject.

They have a 20% rate of infection. The life expectancy is low - about 40 years.

A 20% rate of infection is horrendous.

The truth is rarely cheery.
