Dark Happy Place
Have you ever heard of Post-Pun?. It's a genre that appeared in the late 70's after the revolutionary onset of Punk-Rock brought on by bands like The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and The Clash. This new genre was pioneered by the innovative band Joy Division. It takes the agression and attitude of Punk-Rock and break it's bounderies of simplicity incorperating new song structures and synthesizers. Unlike the contemporary New-Wave artists (The Televisions, The Talking Heads), they took on a deeper darker form. Joy Division actually dressed in all black trench coats durring their on stage performances and their lead singer Ian Curtis would dance in this erractic manner like he was having a seizure. Well actually he suffered from epilepsy uncertain of when his life would end. This would bring on a suicidal nature in their music "Directionless, so plain to see. A loaded gun won't set you free, so you say" - New Dawn Fades.
Other artist that dabbled in this genre would be the noteable Cure, Echo and The Bunnymen, and Gang of Four. This genre a huge effect on the Goth Rock generation to fallow and now is having a re-emergance in bands like She Wants Revenge, Interpol, and Be Your Own Pet. Ofcourse with all music it has evolved and these band are not restricted to the genre as Joy Division was restricted to their predecessor of Punk.
Ian Curtis (1956-1980) - Lead Singer of Joy Division
I am a Broken Sex Toy. Kept this false concived notion in my head that women were pure and I (men) were filth. My best friend would endorse this with long story of men that'd take advantage. And that one time we were on that couch. I didn't live threw my heart but lived threw a confused and stressed ... She told me I was an animal. After that I didn't touch anyone. And then the only women who'd touch me I'd have to pay. Inside me is some fearce sexual preditor wanting to get out. Wrapped up in this broken dark heart. And covered by this shell of a charming gental man. Because that's what I've grown up to be. If you'd like to be my friend, I'd like to be yours. I promise I won't bite, unless you'd want me to.
