Bittersweet.

I'm in a really good place at this moment, mentally speaking. I'm somewhat content and have a bunch of thoughts that are keeping me happy and occupied. Oddly enough, the following sentence is something I never thought I'd say; part of the reason I'm happy is my sudden an unexpected involvement in roller derby. Not as a photographer, as I might have thought, but...

I saw Sucker Punch. It was dreadful. That said, I don't regret it. I own Shoot 'Em Up and Dead Or Alive on DVD, so it's evident that I'm a fan of the odd movie that goes completely over the top. I'm not saying I'm a fan of this, but I've seen worse. The action/imagination sequences were great though, and I'm a fan of John...

Dex, for some, becoming a photog was sometimes just about being in the right place at the right time. Meeting an established photog and using his/her connections to your advantage.

For others, it was a hard uphill battle, but they believed in themselves, and they made it happen.

You have connections, and i think are starting to feel abit more cinfident that you can, in fact, do something in that vein.

You only live once my friend, just fucking go for it.

Your photography is solid, and getting better all the time.

Talk to Ross, and get better at being social/comfortable with local potential models and just go for it.

You are far to critical of your work.... It is wonderful!! Those photo's there re perfect and that last one is definitely top quality!!

I haven't seen Sucker Punch yet, but I really want to. It's supposed to be awful, but I'm contesting that based soley on the fact that I DON'T CARE.
Let's just have a quick overview of things I saw in the trailer that have brought me to this scientific reasoning:

1) Burlesque performers.
2) Guns.
3) Clockwork and steam powered zombie Nazis storming British trenches...

So this college that I've been shipped off to for this course by my job has this Engineering Challenge competition running. Basically it's a design and build competition run by the engineering department. A lecturer was in the other day to tell us about it and try to get some of us to enter, although there was about as much enthusiasm as you'd find in...

I suppose I should probably update this... except I never know what to write.

The powers that be in my job have seen fit to cross-train me as an electrician, since they think they may need one when my contract expires in 15 months. This could mean I get to keep a job after the fact (here's hoping), but it's still looking grim.
A consequence...

A conversation I had with my mother earlier today.

Mother: What's that tan and brown coloured thing that looks like a waistcoat?
Me: With the camoflage pattern?
Mother: Yes, that one.
Me: That's body armour.
Mother: What's that?
Me: It's protective equipment. Stops bullets, knives, frag from explosives. That kind of stuff. Keeps your chest and back nicely free of sharp pointy metal bits.
Mother:...

Dear insecurities and paranoia.
You are not welcome here, please sod off and stop popping your heads in when you're not needed. You're pissing me off and making my life a hellish experience at present.

Regards,
Dex.

P.S.: your interruptions are counter productive and your cycling in my head will inevitably result in a self-fulfilling prophecy situation.
tycal:
Paranoia is great. Especially in horror movies, makes friends shoot friends and all that. But then this isn't like that, this is Dex's life, which isn't a horror movie, no matter how much he wishes for a Zombie Apocalypse. Obviously I'm not exactly of sound mind to give advise on this since I'm still in the same boat but then that's just it, I'm in the same boat. It's a battleship really. We're at war Dex. Hmm two guys with paranoia on a ship with really big guns. I'm sure there's a movie there or a therapy session.
