I cruised the ghetto to get my ID only to find that because I was born in England, I would need to have my birth certificate in order to receive a license. I seriously walked from 118th street all the way to 169th and ninety first avenue for that.
I was not robbed, shot, stabbed, or raped, which is nice.
I probably shouldn't talk that badly about the place. Realistically, I knew how to handle the area and myself so that there weren't any issues, but it was pretty tough for an area. It looked dangerous.
Favorite crazy guy today: Toothless old man stumbling with red eyes and uttering some sort of unfathomable sounds that were (I'm guessing) in jubilation.
Most beautiful female: Perhaps the woman I stood next to on the bus. There was a runner up in a store who shot me a personable grin, and I swear I abotu melted then and there, but she is young young young, at least that's my guess. She was the best today. By far.
I am beginning to understand the transit system a lot better, AND I am walking and eating better. I have to learn how to budget like a motherfucker, but I can do this.
After the DMV, I subwayed back to Kew Gardens and took a bus out to CUNY Law to see what it looked like. Tommorrow I'll try visiting the interior. In the great words of Bill Murray: "Baby steps... Baby steps"
I got to talk to a lot of my family today, which was nice and my friend Pat called. I was grinning from ear to ear just listenning to his message.
I did laundry and started to realize that I am quickly becoming a part of the community. Soon people will start asking me questions and trying to figure me out.
EEK!
Anyhow, I spent the rest of the night at home with Elena, talking about all sorts of things and eating lots of healthy food. She is very nice, but she does want to put me into a contract... YUCK. I guess I should get used to this. She is still a very sweet woman from Latvia, and a TAILOR! She's great.
I also got very little reading done, which is beginning to worry me. I will need to kick into high gear VERY soon. I may not leave my room until I've read one hundred pages. That seems acceptable.
Anyhow, wiggly world, here's to you and a good night,
Ian
