So yesterday was rad as fuck. After I got out of class I headed out to pick up this chick, and swung by my parents' place to pick up the best pair of shoes I've ever owned, my second pair of Chuck Taylors. I retired them about a year ago when it got cold and wet and all the holes let too much water in while walking around the city, but I reclaimed them last for two reasons: first, my current shoes have been transformed into slip-ons, so they get pulled off with ease at shows, and secondly, it was a special occasion: my two favorite bands were playing on the same bill at The Masquerade. I figured such an event was worthy of the old shoes.

Anyway, Flux and I met up with my sister, , my roommates, my buddy Brandon, Brett, and these two annoying kids at my apartment. We filled up our flasks with good ol' whiskey and set off. At the venue we met up with a ton of other kids we know, including this chick, daniel13, strikinghelix, and optimistress. It was awesome.

We missed the opening band, True North. Lucero came on next, and they were awesome; good old southern rock mixes very well with whiskey. After Lucero went off we emptied our flasks and finished our beers in preperation for the greatest band in the world: Against Me!

Their show was fucking awesome, as usual. Some kid was attemopting to crowdsurf and fell, catching my eye and the bridge of my nose with his studded belt. I thought I was bleeding, but it turned out I was just sweating that much. Hot!They played a bunch of new songs, as well as our old favorites "Pints of Guiness Make You Strong" (to which I toasted the kids around me with the last of my booze), "Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious," "Reinventing Axl Rose," and "Sink, Florida, Sink." They also played "Politics of Starving," which I don't think I've heard them play before. But perhaps the best moment was when they played the mighty "Baby, I'm An Anarchist." Awesome. There is nothing better than screaming all of the words to your favorite song by your favorite band with your best friend while surrounded by your favorite people in the world. It was fucking perfect.

But, of course, the night didn't end there. The Blood Brothers came on stage next and lacerated everyone's eardrums while simultaneously infecting the entire crowd with an uncontrolable urge to dance. They opened with my favorite song from their last record, "Cecilia and The Silhouette Saloon." At this point I was still pumped from Against Me! and still fairly drunk, so I was going absolutely nuts, even to the point where my usual dancing in the crowd was not quenching my thirst for rocking. My solution? Get inthe pit. This in itself is a monumentous occasion; I never dance anymore (I got disillusioned with it some time ago because of my old man/indie cred complex). A band has to be fucking great for me to even consider getting in the pit, let alone spend an hour flailing around wildly. I had a fucking blast.

After the show I was literally drenched from head to toe. , so I bought a sweatrshirt before I headed downstairs to 80s Night. I met up with Alia down there and danced for a few hours until I sobered up enough to drive and the others were ready to go.

All in all it was an incredible night, the best I've had in a while. Unfortunately, I'm feeling the after effects of all the fun today. Yipes.
flux:
Thanks, baby.
