I went to an awesome New Years Eve Party....I loved it. It was like being at the Cool Kids Party for once... Yesterday I slept and watched an all day Marathon of Slings and Arrows(i like the theatah) Back at work today. I hate work... I'm going to start looking for another job.

I recently watched all of The Dresden Files, and now I really want the books. When I have money again I plan on picking up the first few.
I understand about not reading many female authors. There just isn't the selection, and some of those that are out there speak quite poorly for the potential of female authors. (Laurell K. Hamilton has gotten so disgustingly horrible that she has soured the reputation of all of us female urban fantasy authors.)
Patricia Briggs is definitely worth checking out though. And she is still at the stage where all of her books are coming out initially in paperback. Her main character is a tough as nails mechanic who shapeshifts into a fox and looks like a suicide girl (whoah, awesome chest piece and full sleeves.) Another character is a vampire who has a vw van painted as the Mystery Machine. Her books are... grittier, or dirtier, than most female authors out there. They also aren't full of erotica/poorly written sex like most female authors. They actually don't really have any.

There's a lot of debate on whether or not Black Christmas was the first slasher or not. There was definitely a lot of films before that which held true to much of the formula. Blood and Black Lace for example.
Halloween was really the movie that made the genre popular... launched it, if you will.
Basically it took the techniques in films like Black Christmas and brought them together and really used them in creative ways. Showed just what you could do with them.
No matter, I would hardly call Black Christmas' killer a main slasher... there was only one, he was never really shown (just those creepy ass eyes) and we never even got his name!
Trust me, it'll get some props in the book though.
