Picture time.

So this is what the back of my house used to look like. On the left side of the picture is my kitchen; the extension on that side will house the laundry room slash mud room. On the right side is the dining room area; the extension on that side will have 3 doors opening out to the terrace. Above the dining room is my bedroom, and above the kitchen is the guest room slash office.

After I removed all the paving stones the day before they drove in the piles:

The foundations for the extension. You can see why I decided not to do this part myself; they had to dig a hole 3+ feet deep and 20 by 8 feet wide. Oh yeah, and it was 85 degrees wink. The rebar is from the piles they had driven 20+ feet deep.

Then it was my turn. I had a contractor put down the foundations, but everything above the concrete I designed, measured, cut and screwed or hammered in place myself. With a little help from my cousin with the heavier stuff. This is what we accomplished in 3 days:

I'm pretty proud of what we accomplished so far. My cousin and I have been sitting and walking on the roof installing it, and there's not even a squeak, not even with the both of us on there at the same time. So I'd say it's pretty damn sturdy. Not bad for a pencilpusher, huh?

Tomorrow my other cousin is coming over to help me out, we're going to make the roof watertight. A hot, messy job, but it needs to be done. Once that's done, I can take off the plastic and take better pictures. It's been raining a lot the past few days, so I had to keep everything covered well. Then once I slapped on some paint, all there's left to do on the outside is install the door frames and a window. Though I still don't know when they'll be ready. But once the door frames are installed, the extension will be weathertight and it'll be time to knock out the back wall and join the extension with the rest of the house.
So this coming week, I'm focusing on the interior. The first job is frame the wall in the kitchen that will connect with the frame in the extension. Then it's time to run plumbing and wiring in both the kitchen and the extension, followed by sheetrocking. Hopefully by the time that's done, the kitchen will have arrived. The only thing left in the kitchen right now is the sink, the stove and the fridge, so I'm roughing it a bit.
