If you're reading this chances are you are (or have once been) part a young unsigned band who has at some point been exploited by the uncompromisingly nasty pay to play (p2p) system. It's taken me this long to vent publicly about it only due to general complacency but I have a spare hour so why not use it to guide potential victims out of...

BigSmoke
My band and I made our first jaunt down to the big smoke last night to play at the "legendary" dublin castle venue in camden. Upon arriving we came to realize that there was absolutely NOWHERE to park, we spent close to 3 hours searching for a 24hr car park but to no avail. We ended up parking 20 minutes away from the venue...

Sorry to hear it didn't go so well man. I'd like to say that things will get better, but I was in a band for two years and it didn't go all that well.
But if you think about how many bands make it relative to how many there are in existence, the odds are against everyone, so fuck giving up. All you can do is stick with and hope that someone will get what you're trying to do one day.
I know that this comment sounds negative, but it's only coz I'm drunk.

Keep us around
As part of the scenery
We don't need to speak
If we are not needed
We're kept in the back
Polishing wedding rings
Kick up the dust
Find a new haunting ground
Drink in the night
There's no-one around

I like it. But I find lyrics lack context if not paired with a tune and music. Have you got any MP3's of tracks you could send me?
I understand that musicians venting their political views and ideologies counts as a bit of a taboo these days but I am not bono. I'm just frankly appalled by the current state of affairs in lebanon and israel and just wanted to get my feelings across to anyone who's willing to listen.
I think largely my problem with the situation boils down to people's readiness...

After reading this post my blog seems decidedly self-centered.
Anyway, it's always good to see people speak up about these things, and man you're good at articulating your thoughts. It's true, it's certainly not a black and white situation, but I believe that all things considered, Israel 's concern of annhilation by Hezbollah comes across as a little incogitable given their western backing and their already-flexed weaponary muscles. While it may not be my place to say who's right or wrong what you said about organised religion certainly does ring true in this conflict, but by the same token, we're talking about nations that have religion so heavily ingrained within their culture that to them, religion and law are one in the same. I guess, what I'm saying is that it's very different to the way that the Bush administration uses organised religion to it's advantage.
Aside from that, it seems our profiles are almost identical, and you're the only other person who I've actually had some kind of contact with who likes The Arcade Fire. In fact, that's a very handsome band list.
I would say something else, but I think Bill has the floor.
"You already used this damn photo of me. Stop getting drunk on a Sunday night!"

I don't know what came over me, i was bored, pissed off, upset, quite drunk and listening to stars of the lid (which always puts me in a reflective mood). In these conflicts there is no right and/or wrong answer and there are no real quick fix solutions so my only way around it was to write down every little thought I had concerning the matter (so much so that I really cannot physically be bothered to comment anymore on it).... i'm usually shit at articulating my thoughts by the way... it's just when i'm drinking a bizarre form of clarity seems to take over and the words almost channel themselves through my fingers.
Anyway please keep in touch, I see from your profile picture that you are a radiohead fan and radiohead fans don't come much more obsessive then myself. (i have one of johnny greenwoods plectrums framed and hanging over my bed)... i really wish i hadn't admitted that.
P.S. Our profiles are pretty similar yes (of course theres the whole ocaens apart thing but other than that) and I can't believe you havn't found anyone else on here whos a fan of the arcade fire. I don't think iv'e seen a more exciting new live band and over here at least they are pretty popular (I even heard power out on a BBC sports program recently).... loving the bill murray thign by the way, he would make an excellent god.

Today my band did a live recording of two new tracks, one a chirpy pop song and the other a godspeed style post-rock dirge. The songs should be avalible to download soon enough, along with the live session we recorded for local radio last month.

Not much to say tonight....... Took one of those ridiculous IQ test thingys earlier (apparantly I have an IQ of 150) and then spent the rest of the day finishing a track entitled "Thorny Black Trees" (If you havn't read Dantes Inferno you won't get the reference but meh). It's a throbbing gristle style abrasive industrial mashup that is threatening to destroy my speakers as...

I don't reject New Order (far from it), they have had some great albums many of which I own, I just prefer Joy Division. The epic widescreen tradgedy of the 'Closer' album has yet to be matched in terms of sheer melodrama and emotional weight. I'm actually planning to see New Order this summer at the Glastonbury Festival (though if they play Atmosphere and cock it up I shall NEVER forgive them).
As far as Modest Mouse...... I saw them last november in a tiny dive with about 100 other sweaty indie affectionados.....and they were awesome. The general british population seems to be catching on but it will probably take another album a tleast before they gain any sort of gravitas over here. Why 'Float On' wasn't a hit is beyond me but meh.

I have, stashed somewhere, original vinyl of Closer and an lp single of LWTUA. One white, one black. Way too austere to hang on a wall, though.
Check out, also, the Decemberists from Portland. Smiths plus The Beautiful South plus Wilco?

Promoters who actually do their job and promote are becoming a rare breed.
I just listened to Shame by LOW which you mentionned in a thread you began a million years ago -- such haunting anguish. Perfect for my mood. thank you.
