What do you do when the storybook romance is over?
Where do you go?
I'll tell you where: Casino el Camino on Austin's famous Sixth Street. It's one of the only bars there I tolerate, and the only one in Austin I love.
There I can drown my sorrow in strong drinks, amazing burgers, and the best jukebox in the world. They played CCR's "Bad Moon Rising," The Ramones "Danny Says," and dozens of other great tunes. They show movies with subtitles. Good flicks, too. "A Bronx Tale" was showing when I left.
I looked up at the black velvet painting of Lou Ferrigno's Incredible Hulk and I identified with the misunderstood monster. Gargoyles leered over my failure. The bartender always checked up on me. I never had to wave him down.
I'm spinning into a drain of doom and gloom, but at least I have my favorite bar.
Goddammit. "Life was sweet... for a minute."
