Talked to Army and Navy recruiters today.
The Army guys were pretty cool. They were pretty laid back and mostly understood that I just wanted to establish contact and I wasn't interested in listening to any bullshit "be an army on one" type of shit. They wanted to know what I wanted to get out of the experience and understood what I was trying to get across. They weren't pushy at all and didn't even ask me my full name or try to get any info out of me.
But I'm kind of leaning towards Navy. I think it would be awesome to work with airplanes on aircraft carriers.
But the navy guys sucked. Nobody in that office seemed to speak english as their first language. The guy I talked to seemed to not be listening to me at all. He seemed exactly like the stereotype brainwashed military guy.

oh well. I'm not discouraged at all. All the time I'm getting more and more comfortable with the idea.

there's no such thing as a free lunch.
I might be biased...ok I AM biased...but try the Marines too. They have airplanes and avionics techs too...and there's lots of other fields open. Also...any one recruiter you go to might be cool or might be an ass..don't take it as an indication of the service...a lot of people in that field did it to get out of another field or as an advancement thing. also...get all the info from the recruiter you can, but don't believe anything until it's in writing...and don't sign it till you've read it...and even then understand that it might not be what you think it is.
another reccomendation I have is you might want to check out the Reserves too...you go through all the same training, when it's done you don't have to be military 24/7...but you can augment to full active if you want to.
and remember...if you do change your mind...no matter what shit they lay on you...you can seperate all they up to at least halfway through bootcamp without any real penalty.
