Last night I was alarmed to discover that after Katie died that Erin had fleas. So last night I went to the store, picked up shampoo and washed her completely to remove the fleas. She was still very heartbroken about Katie dying and today she died herself. I was home at lunch and petted her for a little bit. When I got home at 5pm she had passed of a broken heart.
I knew that Katie's death was imminent and was expecting her to pass on. So last night I came to peace with that with the consolation that I'll still have Erin for awhile. This has really shaken me. Since Erin had fleas I cleaned the cage out, washed everything off and put away the rat cage. Sometime soon I will have two funerals for my little babies. They have been my only companions for the past year and a half and I will miss them dearly.

I am so sorry to read that your babies have passed.
I understand what they mean to you.
We just had Tony (female) operated on to have her
mammary cysts removed. I know they will come back
and some people view rats as vermin or disposable pets, but you
and I know different. They are clever, friendly and better companions
then most humans.
Tony is doing well and I know my time with her is fleeting. But she makes me
laugh (genuinely) and that is more than I can say for most people.
